about

Unreleased / unfinished / unwanted...

"I guess that this material didn't get released back when it was recorded, which is a shame, as much of it is superb. It doesn't sound much like Big Block 454's most recent releases, mainly purveying an 80s electro-funk sound, with some truly excellent vocals and samples, and some satisfyingly bizarre lyrics ('my watch-strap smells great'). A work of twisted genius." - Oliver Arditi

credits

released January 1, 1960

These songs feature various line-ups of Big Block 454 - personnel include Colin Robinson, Pete Scullion, Melissa Sinden, Dave Bullock and Emma Scott, recordings made between 1989 and 1996.

about

Big Block 454 Hebden Bridge, UK

Since the late 80s, Big Block 454 has been making exploratory, highly individual music that encompasses rock, funk, electronica, folk music, Dadaist collage and much more besides.
Each band member is a multi-instrumentalist, but Big Block 454’s approach also encompasses the creation of sound on instruments they don’t know how to play, and those that hadn’t been invented before the band made them.

Track Name: Marzipan Pig
Tell me how big is your marzipan pig?
(How big? How big?)
Tell me how big?
(How big? How big?)
I will devour it

Tell me how big is your marzipan pig?
Tell me how big?
I will eat you too

Marzipan Pig
Pork and almonds
Bacon with nuts
Rashers and cake
Sweet cured porker
Battenberg Hog
Spongy wild boar
Smoked back fancy
Truffle-hunting cupcake
I will eat you too
Track Name: No Proper Breakfast
It’s not ‘cos I shouldn’t,
It’s not ‘cos I wouldn’t,
You know it’s not ‘cos I couldn’t,
It’s simply because I’m the laziest girl in town
Track Name: Double Top
Double Top,
just don't stop,
we're gonna drive you nuts
Track Name: Our House Will Be A Haven
When the cold world starts to crack
We’ll be inside with the smack of our lips together
When the sky turns awfully grey
We’ll be inside making hay and love together

Our house will be a haven, a place of peace and calm
No harm will come to you young man
Our house will be a love nest, a place of spice and lust
It’s just for you and me young man

When the regime just gets worse,
We will loudly shout and curse and swear together
And if the problems start to mount,
We’ll do our best to sort them out and work together

Our house will be a haven, a place of peace and calm
No harm will come to you young man
Our house will be a love nest, a place of spice and lust
It’s just for you and me young man

Our house will be a haven, a place of peace and calm
Our house will be a love nest, a place to keep us warm
Track Name: Kinky Kapsule
Is it hard for you to understand?
We can take off into the blue
And never land
We’ll start flying when I turn the key,
You’ll be lying next to me
We can’t lose while I hold the map, so
Care to cruise in my Kinky Kapsule?

Kinky Kapsule
Kinky Kapsule

When we leave the atmosphere, without oxygen
I swear you will never hear surf music again
We’ll start flying when I turn the key,
You’ll be lying next to me
We can’t lose while I hold the map, so
Care to cruise in my Kinky Kapsule?

Whirl
Track Name: Exporting Moonlight
I name the guilty men, I watch them wriggle in the sand
I think I will dismember the World with my hands
Last night I dreamt of water, though I slept like a log
I think I’ll write a letter to the man who killed my dog

Oh, let’s export some of this moonlight to Detroit

Satyrs and sylvan boys join me for a date
I dare say I’ve been sitting up too late
I drove at 50 miles an hour, my headlights none too bright
The temperature was 98 degrees of Fahrenheit

Oh, let’s export some of this moonlight to Detroit

It’s 12 o’clock in London, and you are underage
Let’s play the music and open the cage
You’d be as happy as a sand boy, if only you could
Let’s face it, you’ve never had it so good

Oh, let’s export some of this moonlight to Detroit
